After 5.00, I was pretty sure that Sony was releasing firmware versions some sanity (releasing next versions.. like 1.00, 2.00, 5.00, etc) when they had something significant to push out. 5.00 OFW had this with the PSN account manager and the full screen keyboard. With 6.00 though, they’ve managed to dispel that belief. The number associated with the PSP’s firmware seems like it’s more for aesthetics rather than marking any significant functionality.
Don’t believe it?
Here’s the complete list of changes for PSP Firmware 6.00 (6.00 OFW)
It’s a bit late but I would like to add my greetings to one of my beloved consoles, the Dreamcast. It was launched on September 9, 1999 (So as of posting I’m 2 days late), exactly ten years ago but it’s spot in the lime-light was short-lived due to the huge success of it’s competitor, the Sony PlayStation 2. For gamers who managed to play and loved the console though, it was a success in it’s own right. » Read more after the jump →
If you’re still looking for a Dark Alex release of 5.50 custom firmware tough luck. The good news is that members of team M33 has released their version of 5.50 much like what they did with 5.03 (5.03 MHU A.K.A. Custom Firmware Enabler). Do note that this custom firmware is for PSP-1000 / non-TA088v3 PSP-2000’s.
It’s been a long time coming but the PSP is about to get it’s Gran Turismo treatment. And it’s in style. It will arrive as one of the first titles to go on sale on UMD and as a downloadable (and cheaper) game via the PSN in time for the launch of the PSP Go. Is it worth the wait? We’ll have to wait and see but as a GT fan, I can’t wait to get my hands on it.
A number PSP game releases require owners to update their PSP to the latest version of the firmware, 5.50. If you have custom firmware, that would mean upgrading to 5.50 GEN-A (and 5.50 GEN-B). If reluctant to (or in the case of PSP-3000 owners can’t) upgrade your firmware, here’s a bypass that will let you play games that require the latest firmware version.
If you’re looking for this on the web, people refer to it as the version.txt hack or version.txt for short. People can be lazy with names it seems.
Sony has officially announced the PlayStation 3 Slim confirming what the internet has been buzzing about for quite some time now. It will retail for $100 less than the older model (which is also getting a nifty discount as per the rumors of a 2009 PlayStation 3 Price Cut) albeit looking a bit less shiny.
I haven’t been playing Monster Hunter like I used to but I think I’ve come pretty far off. I started with Monster Hunter Freedom 2 and reached up to HR 4 before Monster Hunter P2G (the japanese version of Unite) came out. Since there it they had different languages, I had to ask one of the good peeps at PinoyPSP for a conversion and imported my character to P2G.
A few months of playing later I got to HR 6. As luck had it I lost my PSP-2000 . Lucky for me, I had the habit of backing up my saved games so I only lost about a week’s worth of hunting. If I remember right, that week was me hunting HR6 Silver Rathalos’s and Golden Rathians for rubies (yes it was THAT frustrating) .
Six months later I was able to get a refurbed PSP-1000 and continued where I left off. After just a month (I got my PSP phat June 29 ), I’m now:
The series for Fate/Stay Night left a somewhat bitter after taste (especially after archer died whoops spoiler ) but it managed to tell the Fate arc’s story quite generously. It’s a real achievement considering they dropped all hints that it came from a Hentai game (some parts of the story were actually connected to the H-scenes, like how they recharge the servants .
The anime of course simply showed the FATE arc, which was only one of three story lines found in the game. Unlimited Blade Works and Heavenly Feel, the arcs which you can access after the original, had a more intriguing focused and storyline. Fans of this Type-Moon mega-hit Fate/Stay Night wanted more. And they’ll get more
Up for release on cinemas on January 23rd, 2010 is Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works. » Read more after the jump →
Sony and game publishers have started to implement a security system for PSPs that block custom firmware from within the game. They do it by checking your firmware version before booting the actual game. Currently there is no work around for this (the version.txt method doesn’t work with newer games). 5.50 GEN-B and the older 5.00 M33 simply don’t work. The only way you’ll get to play these games are to upgrade to the latest official firmware.
With this kind of DRM getting rolled out, the PSP Go is starting to look very attractive.
