Asus finally opens up the preorders for this sleek (and cheap) sub-notebook.

To cut costs, Asus decided to include the Xandros Linux distribution instead of Windows. It supports WiFi b/g, uses SSD for its storage and has a mutli-card reader (full specs). Even with a seeming low battery life (3 hours probably at max) I’m looking forward to owning one because of it’s extreme portability. As one of my friends described it, it’s a cross between a smartphone PDA and a laptop but definitely more attractive than both.

You can place your preorder with Asus.

Same here. I’ll be getting the 4GB version since I doubt it’ll be easy to swap the solid state drives.

i checked out the link for pre-order, the cheapest was $250, did they bump up the price recently? I was planning to get one so I can have a toy laptop… i’m wondering if it can handle if i install a server(apache to be specific) in there? i was assuming if it’s linux, apache would be ok… hmmm… but yay, i’m excited to get one!

I think the additional price is due to it’s pre-order status. On Apache, yes I think it can handle it well. Enjoy your cute EEE soon. XD

Yes I plan on getting one too. One of my relatives already placed an order for me, it’s a sort of pre-graduation gift.

There’s are some companies trying to compete with the EEE. If you want a sub notebook ASAP, I suggest comparing prices and features first before settling for one.
