Homebrew can now run on the PSP-3000 or PSP-2000 with TA-088v3 thanks to PSPGEN and Team Typhoon. The chickHen hack allows you to run Homebrew on both PSP models and custom firmware 5.03 Gen-A lets you play your games from ISO/CSO files.

Update: This guide is sorely outdated. If you please refer to this new guide instead : Install Signed 5.03 Hen + 5.03 GEN-C on your PSP. It’s much simpler to follow and will help you install 5.03 GEN-C and the Prometheus-4 module.
Update: After installing 5.03 GEN-A, please install the 5.03 GEN-C update or 5.03 Prometheus for the the best compatibility with the latest games.
Important Notes:
This guide is for non-hackable PSPs. (PSP-3000 / PSP-2000 TA-088v3). If you’re not sure what PSP you have, please read: Is my PSP hackable?
On this guide, we will help install 5.03 GEN-A on your PSP. There is no danger of bricking your PSP unless you deviate from the instructions listed below. Unlike custom firmware for hackable PSPs, the danger of bricking your PSP-3000 / PSP-2000 TA-088v3 is quite real. If you’re not sure about a step, take the time to post a question.
Do note that if you have official firmware 5.50 or higher installed, stop now. You can’t install the chickHen hack which means you can’t install 5.03 GEN-A.
Requirements:
- A PSP-3000 or PSP-2000 with TA-088v3 motherboard.
- Davee’s chickHen installed and running
- Download: 5.03 GEN-A
- Back up your save files (so that if they get corrupted, you still have backups)
How to Install Custom Firmware 5.03GEN-A for ChickHEN
Before you proceed to installing custom firmware 5.03 GEN-A, you need to install and successfully run the chickHen hack. Read the guide and comeback here to finish the installation.
How to Install 5.03 GEN-A
- Connect your PSP to the computer in USB Mode when you have loaded ChickHEN R2.
- Unzip the file you’ve downloaded on your computer
- Run the LAUNCH-ME.exe (GUI) Application
- PSP Model : choose your PSP PSP-2000 or PSP-3000 (shown below)
- PSP 2000 = Slim and Lite
- PSP 3000 = Brite
- Choose the option ‘FULL’ under Mode
- Choose the option ‘Yes’ under PSP Install
- PSP Drive Unit: Type the letter of your PSP’s Drive. Do not “:” but just the letter (example, the PSP is recognized G)
- press START , and the files will be patched and copied to the Memory Stick.
- Disconnect the PSP from USB.
- Launch the homebrew file ‘INSTALLER-LOADER’ under ‘GAME > Memory Stick’.
- When the app load, press L or R to flash the firmware in your flash. You will see this screen again but only to load the 5.03 custom firmware
- After the flash done, press O [it's the circle button] to reboot in the custom firmware.
- After the PSP reboot, you are finish installation proses. Now your firmware is 5.03 GEN-A(full).
After installing 5.03 GEN-A, please proceed to install 5.03 GEN-B 
.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Help! 503.pbp is corrupted, I can’t run it.
If you’re experiencing this problem, rename the 503.pbp to EBOOT.pbp. (Do this ONLY if you’re experiencing the problem indicated)
No risk of brick in normal use
Custom Firmware 5.03GEN for HEN-A can not brick your console during the installation. Understand that the
Custom Firmware 5.03GEN for HEN-A adds the files it needs but does not those of the official firmware 5.03.
Once installed, as it is a Custom Firmware, you have access to the flash0 of your console.
DO NOT TOUCH THE FLASH0
Don’t EVER load the flasher to flash0 of your PSP. Do not edit any files of OFW 5.03. If you do then congratulations, you’ve just bricked your PSP. If you manage to brick your PSP installing custom firmware (which as stated above is not possible under NORMAL usage), you need to talk to Sony and I’m sure they’ll be happy to take in your case (NOT!)
DON’T TURN OFF YOUR PSP.
You can put your PSP to sleep/standyby but don’t allow it to drain it’s battery to 0%. If you do, you will need to you will need use again ChickHEN R2 to load the main app and press ( ) to reboot in the custom firmware.
After installation, remove the “files” folder in the MS ROOT. For your own safety, is better that you rename or erase the prx called “flasher.prx” in the MAIN APP folder to avoid wrong flash times.

Hi there..i have installed chickHen to my psp 3000 which is now version 6.2 and now when i want to install 5.03 GEN-A pressing the LAUNCH.EXE..then it prompt “the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135)”
i cant seem to launch it…so what do i need to do now?

Please read the requirements, it specifically says firmware of 5.03 and below. Above that, you can’t install it.

You won’t be able to run the installer for 5.03 GEN-A without running ChickHen first.

The links above have the regular chickhen installer and the easy installer. Use the regular chickhen installer since that’s not an EXE file.

Yep, just select the uninstall option of CFWEnabler, run chickhen and install 5.03 GEN-A

Does Uninstall CFWEnabler Option would mean I will “delete” the CFWEnabler? If NO? How to uninstall it? Because I can’t find uninstall option command in CFWEnabler.

Question 1:
I recently traded in my DSi for a psp 3000. I have been researching for 2 days now on how to work the chicken hen R2 with CFW 5.03 GEN-C and I have finally gotten that to work. Now I have researched a lot about putting videos on the psp. I have created the “VIDEO” folder in the root of the memory stick (mines is 2gb) and I have used many converters to convert many different movies / videos I have on my PC. I made the video’s into MP4/MPEG-4 format and when I put the video in the “VIDEO” folder on my psp, I get unsupported data when I try to watch the movie under the video’s memory stick section on my psp. Please help, I have watched numerous youtube vids, read many tutorials but I can not seem to find the answer to my solution. I also ready many forums that have this issue but they are all outdated and their solution’s do not fix my problem. I will thank you please help!
I’ve used these converters:
PSP converter 9 (latest version) – I get an error halfway through the conversion everytime.
Format Factory – conversion works but I get unsupported data
Xilisoft MP4 converter 6 – converts only 3 mins of a video since it is Trial version. unsupported Data
ImToo Converter – It’s exactly like Xilisoft
and many other converters
Question 2:
I’ve downloaded a few ISO’s over 1GB such as peace walker and modnation racers. I have 2 issues when trying to extract them.
1st issue: When I extract MGS Peace Walker with WINRAR I see one folder to extract and then when I start extracting it, Winrar only extracts PART1.rar and then I do not know where the other parts are so I receive an error message saying : “You need to have the following volume to continue extraction: MGS peace walker Part2.rar Insert a disk with this volume and press ok to try again or press cancel to break extraction”
so in the end I end up with nothing extracted.
2nd issue: I downloaded modnation racers psp using torrents and I received all the files and folders but I do not see the ISO / CFO file anywhere, I put the whole modnation folder under my game folder but nothing shows up regarding modnation racers when I use my psp.
Please help this is driving me crazy.
If you’re encountering “unsupported data” it simply means you’re using the wrong encoding. I have xilisoft (from a torrent
) and it works just fine for converting PSP videos.
As for number 2, you need all parts of the file before you can extract them so if a file has 5 parts, you need to download all 5 parts before you can extract it.
As the last issue, that’s a problem with using winrar, you’ve probably extracted the iso file. If you’re using Windows, go to Folder Options > View > Uncheck Hide Extensions for known file types and check the extension of your modnation racers file.

as for question number 2, I downloaded PSP ISO torrents saying [FULL ISO] and yet I only got part of the ISO weird. I tried many sites to download ISO’s but I can’t seem to find any free ones or when I do the file has been deleted or removed due to copyright issues. Could you possibly refer me to the best possible ISO site that provides working links and full ISO games?

1. Following the guide above, there is absolutely no danger to your PSP whatsoever.

3. There are several cfw plugins that will allow you to go online and play multiplayer via PSN.

i have a psp-2000(5.0m33-6) and psp-3000(5.03)
1. i chang ver.txt in flash0 of psp2k and enable use ver.txt in recovery menu but my fw never chang in system info… what should i do?
* 2 *. i want to open my psps and chang LCDs (use psp2k lcd with psp 3k and * use psp3k lcd with psp 2k *)
is this posible?
(because there is lot of diff betwen lcds and ALSO i want to run full CFW…)
or at least use the board of psp 3k on my 2k and opesit!
(because my psp 2k is silver but 3k is black!)

The version.txt hack doesn’t change your firmware version. It was created to allow you to play SOME of the games that required a different firmware version. It’s a hack that’s already been fixed.
As for the second, someone already tried swapping PSP-2k and PSP-3k screens. It didn’t work. The PSP-3k is fundamentally different (screenwise) to the 2000.
that’s simply the version.txt hack. If you turn off your PSP, it will still revert to the official firmware and remove your CFW.
is there any custom firmware that if i download it and turn the psp fully off the cfw will still remain on there and not reset

I’ve installed ChickHEN r2 and see it in my System Information as 5.03 ChickHEN R2. Now What?
I plugged in the USB and connect it to my pc, I clicked on LAUNCH ME, started the PSP-CFW GUI v.0.1
Checked PSP 3000
Checked FULL
Checked YES
Entered F for the PSP Unit Drive
and then Start. I get an error saying:
Unhandled exception has occurred in your application…File Not Found.
I’m stuck! I thought I was close to having it all done and this is my roadblock…I’ve read somewhere that I should maybe reformat my Memory Stick, but I’m afraid to lose some saved game data and I’m not sure if that is the right solution.
Can someone please help!

1.you can backup all ur data on your computer and then try again
2. try re-downloading the file and then run the GUI file from the same folder you downloaded it from ,dont change the name of the folder all of the programmes are in

hi!, ive already downloaded the psp-cfw gui .0.1 the problem is… whenever i press the START button, thres a notfication sayin;
unhandled exeption has occured in your application if you continue the app will ignore the error and attempt to continnue. ive pressed the continue buton and i think nothing hapened…i cant figure out why i cant run it O.o

hey dude!! i installed GEN-C full and it runs the t6 very nicely…but i got 1 prob..i played many games…but havent played all of ‘em…so dunt know which other games have this prob…wen i tried to play my fifa 08 on my psp with gen c…it tries to load the game but at end it kicks me back to xmb…i tried changing the xmb clock and other thigs to default and iso mode to all the availables but styll cant play it….so i decided to use 5.50 mhu and u cant guess what happen i loaded 5.50 mhu cfw…then in my system info…there was written 9.90 mhu…and it played all games xcept the t6…idk why…then gagin to play t6 i loaded gen c…but it made me restart and i have to hack wid chickhen again…and next freaky thing is after i hacked psp wid chickhen…in system info it show…6.10 r2…..i didnt know wtf was wrong…so now i run gen c but i cant play fifa 09 plz help me with it…
