Blizzard Targeting Q3 for Diablo III beta
During Activision Blizzard’s earnings call (which was available to all via live stream), one of the few interesting tidbits that was revealed was relevant to Diablo III. According to the stream, based on current estimates, Diablo III will have “external beta testing during the third quarter of this year. Internal company testing of the game started last week.
Woot! Note that the stream was live at 3:00 am (and I had just woken up by then) so I guess the effort was well worth it :).
Blizzard president Mike Morhaime says that while the team is working hard to get Diablo III out this year, quality is more important than a specific release date.
According to Bashiok, community manager for Diablo III, “The 3rd quarter reference in the earning’s call today was a calendar quarter, meaning that we’re aiming to launch the Diablo III beta between July 1st and September 30th. Keep in mind that it’s our current goal, and of course that can change as development continues.”
But of course with everything with regards to Blizzard, until they release an official statement, the Beta date is still tentative.
Also from stream, it was said that we can look forward to two releases in 2012. Judging from the allegedly leaked Blizzard’s roadmap, these titles would be Diablo III and StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm.
I can’t wait 🙂
