[Guide] Downgrade your PSP to any 6.xx OFW

If you have updated your PSP to 6.38 OFW or 6.37 OFW or even the latest PSP firmware, 6.60 OFW and found yourself without a Hen or CFW that’ll allow you to run homebrew or free PSP games well you’re in luck!

PSP developer some1 (yes, that’s his handlename, don’t ask why) has released a Signed downgrader that will allow you to downgrade your PSP from 6.38 to 6.20. While it is a port of Davee’s original downgrade for 6.3x to 6.20, some1 managed to make it work for 6.38 OFW, the current latest firmware available for the PSP. It should, in theory, still work for downgrading 6.35/6.31 to 6.21 but some1 says he hasn’t tested it so try at your own risk.

Update: updated to v4 of some1’s downgrader which now supports 6.60 OFW
Important: Some PSP’s can’t be downgraded beyond 6.3xx, spefically0 8g and 09g models.
Important update: some1’s downgrader officially supports:

Requirements

How to Downgrader on your 6.xx PSP

Important Note: If you chose to downgrade to 6.20, you will get a BSOD (saying that your system information is corrupted), this is OK, just click circle to reset your system information and you will be back to normal.

  • Extract the OFW zip file on your PSP
  • Copy the resulting folder to x:\PSP\GAME\UPDATE (x is your memory stick or the PSP Go‘s storage)
  • Extract the 6.xx Downgrader v4.zip file on your PSP
  • Copy the 6.xx Downgrader v4 folder into PSP/GAME/
  • Run the downgrader from the XMB
  • Follow the instructions and then wait for it to boot the OFW Update
  • When PSP Reboots press O to reset settings
  • Congratulations, you have successfully downgraded your PSP.

If you’re wondering what to do after downgrading, you can install the latest pro LCFW build like 6.20 Pro-B8, 6.35 Pro-B8 or 6.39 Pro-B8.

I downloaded the downgrader and the FW . Extracted both of them , copied the resulting folders on the folders assigned . Yet, when I try to run the downgrader by XM8 , it wont because it says ‘Corrupted Data’ . Does this mean my PSP is not hackable anymore? I bought it within this month . Has a 6.39 FW , PSP3000 . Im on this step ‘Run the downgrader from the XMB’ . I cant move forward because the psp says both of them are corrupted . Help me please . Hayyyy..

    • atmaxplorer sylv3rblade July 8, 2011 Reply

Please ensure that the downgrader is at PSP/GAME otherwise you’ll really get the corrupted data error

  9. djc_1991 daniel john carig July 9, 2011 Reply

Try downgrading to 6.35. You may have one of the newer PSPs that can’t be downgraded below that.

  13. djc_1991 NewToThese July 9, 2011 Reply

Is there a guide/tutorial for doing that? Can I have the link please? Thanks.

    • atmaxplorer sylv3rblade July 9, 2011 Reply

You can use this tutorial for that >_> just be sure to download the OFW for 6.35 and not 6.20. It’s in the links provided in the post

  14. djc_1991 NewToThese July 9, 2011 Reply

      • alagappan_ece Qian August 6, 2011 Reply

Even i tried the same on V6.39, it’s showing Corrupt data.
        I kept the 638 Downgrader\EBOOT.pbp on the location :/PSP/GAME/UPDATE/EBOOT.pbp.
        It’s throwing corrupt data error.
What i have to do on this front.

        • atmaxplorer sylv3rblade August 6, 2011

Errm you’re supposed to copy the downgrader into :/PSP/GAME/. The OFW goes into :/PSP/GAME/UPDATE/

      • alagappan_ece Qian August 7, 2011 Reply

Even i tried that option too.
        Put the EBOOT.pbp on :/PSP/GAME/.
        Still showing corrupted data.

Try dowload the OFW again or try to find it from other place. I once got this problem.
I download 6.20 OFW from here when i try 2 run it, it always say Corrupt data error. (on my psp 3001)

So i try dl from another source (i forgot where) and it work.

NB: The same 6.20 OFW i download from here work fine with my girlfriend psp 3004. don’t really know why it happen.

    • atmaxplorer sylv3rblade August 18, 2011 Reply

Your PSP is probably one of the new version 3000 and can’t be downgraded to 6.20. Try downgrading to 6.35 instead.

Ninja edit: scratch that, didn’t read all the way through your comment. To what OFW version are you downgrading to?

      • samadhia sam August 19, 2011 Reply

About This md5 error, i keep reading the people who asked always say “my firmware 6.39 Pro B 8” Could it be people really run the downgrader from 6.39 Pro series?? maybe that the problem?
Just reminder that the downgrader only work with 6.3X OFW, in other way do not run u’r 6.29 Pro b series FW, check your sistem it make sure it say “6.29” not “6.29 Pro B X”
maybe that will solve the problem.
Been using this downgrader over about 5 diff PSP and it’s worked fine in my case

        • atmaxplorer sylv3rblade August 19, 2011

I think that maybe the case.. I’ll add another point to revert to OFW first. Thanks

I have got a PSP 3000 with Module 03g, Secret code 89xxx and on the box there is the letter A with a black dot.
Can I downgrade it from 6.60 to 6.39 or I will brick it?
Thanka and sorry for bad english!

    • atmaxplorer sylv3rblade August 29, 2011 Reply

Regardless of your PSP’s model, you can downgrade it to 6.39. The only real danger is upgrading to something lower like 6.20 but since your PSP is 03g, you can even downgrade to that. Do note that the downgrader has safeguards in place to prevent accidental brickings from an incompatible firmware.

Hello sylv3rblade, First off let me say that you are awsome and doing a wonderful job for the hacking community and us “gamers” that are just trying to unlock their PSP for personal enjoyment and the sake of completely customizing every aspect of the device. I had a quick question, after some research, i am almost positive that i own the 3001c brite model of the PSP. after purchasing and upgrading to 6.60, i WAS having issues downgrading to 6.20 .. but, after reading some posts, and with you being as right and awesome as ever, my psp would not go as low as 6.20. worked just fine downgrading to 6.35 tho. now on to the next step.. installing the CFW.

    • atmaxplorer sylv3rblade September 9, 2011 Reply

There is currently a downgrader that will allow you to downgrade to 6.20 but as it is still a development build and in need of more testing, a lot of users are having issues. Still I would highly recommend 6.35 and any LCFW (particularly the latest PRO build, 6.35 PRO-B9) for your CFW needs.

    • Jin080895 JinKazamaInLivingFlesh December 21, 2011 Reply

Let me start off by saying your doing wonders for the psp community. Here’s my question, is there any possibility that my psp can be bricked by downgrading I have a psp 3001 and I’m trying to downgrade from 6.60 OFW

      • atmaxplorer sylv3rblade December 21, 2011 Reply

There is always the possibility of bricking when upgrading/downgrading. Since there is a PRO LCFW release for 6.60 OFW, I would recommend that you install that instead of downgrading unless you really want to.
