If you’re having trouble installing custom firmware 5.03 GEN-A don’t fret. You can install Custom Firmware Enabler (cfwe in shorter terms) instead. CFWE enables the functions of the M33 custom firmware using ChickHEN. So yes, it’s from the same team that brought us Dark Alex’s 5.00 M33 custom firmware.
Custom Firmware Enabler will allow you to run homebrew on the PSP-3000 or PSP-2000 w/TA-088v3 and lets you play your games from ISO/CSO files.

This guide will help you install Custom Firmware Enabler on your PSP-3000 / PSP-2000 TA-088v3 to custom firmware. Note that the steps are quite numerous because there are 3 parts to installing Custom Firmware Enabler. Read them well and make sure you understand them before proceeding.
There is no danger of bricking your PSP unless you deviate from the instructions listed below unlike hackable PSPs. The danger of bricking your PSP-3000 / PSP-2000 TA-088v3 is relatively small. If however, you’re not sure about a step, take the time to post a question.
How to Install Custom Firmware Enabler for ChickHEN
Important:
If you have a PSP-2000 and have no idea what motherboard you have, be sure to read this CFW Compatibility Guide. If you have a PSP-2000 that’s not TA-088v3 or PSP-1000 and want to convert your PSP to custom firmware, read this guide on How to install custom firmware. After installing custom firmware, update to 5.00 m33. If you have confirmed that you have a PSP-3000 or PSP-2000 with TA-088v3 then read on.
If you don’t want to install the Custom Firmware Enabler and want to install custom firmware 5.03 Gen-A instead, just read the 5.03 Gen-A installation guide.
Requirements:
- A PSP-3000 or PSP-2000 with TA-088v3 motherboard.
- Davee’s chickHen installed and running
- Download:
- version 3.60: CFWEnabler | CFWEnabler
- version 3.51: CFWEnabler | CFWEnabler (Recommended version)
- version 3.50: CFWEnabler | CFWEnabler | CFWEnabler
- Back up your save files (so that if they get corrupted, you still have backups)
Before you proceed to installing custom firmware CFWE, you need to install and successfully run the chickHen hack. Read the guide and comeback here to finish the installation.
How to Install Custom Firmware Enabler
- Connect your PSP to the computer in USB Mode when you have loaded ChickHEN R2.
- Extract the zip file on your computer
- Copy the PSP folder to your memory card
- Disconnect the PSP from USB.
- On your PSP, Go to GAME > Memory Stick > CFWEnabler
- The CFWEnabler screen will boot up, Select install and your PSP will reboot.
- Congratulations, you now have 5.00 M33-6 (yes, it loads 5.00 M33-6) on your PSP.
FAQS:
- Can load ISO’s? – Yes, yes, you can.
- Will it work with PSP’s with TA-088v3 and PSP3000? – Yes
- Can it brick my console? – This version has several checks to verify that everything is installed, it is 99.99% safe
- When you turn off the console I have to repeat the procedure? – Yes, you have to repeat it, but after the first time, you don’t need flash anything.
- And you can not prevent either procedure? – Could be avoided if we could do an IPL compatible.
- Is will future releases rectify the current problems? – It is possible, but is not guaranteed anything.
- Will plugins work? – Yes, they work.
- Does the M33 SDK? – Yes, it works.
- Can I install LEDA? – Yes, it works perfectly.
Common Errors:
- When you start the program it automatically goes to the menu – It has not been able to reallocate the flash, make sure your version is correct ChickEN.
- I can’t run ISO’s - Make sure that your configuration is correct.
- It created a folder called SVCPlayer. Why? – You have a plugin that creates the so-called “capture” nothing to do with CFWEnabler.

I’ve been trying to uninstall the MHU and I keep installing Gen-C but the System Info still keeps showing 5.03 MHU. Am I doing something wrong?

Check mo muna kung hackable nga ang PSP mo, baka kasi inde pede idowngrade sayang lang effort natin.
question… … i have a psp 3000 that i modified already to chickhen & 5.03 Gen and works perfectly… now.. i dont know what happened.. my son usually re-boots it to chickhen everytime na mag hang.. then now it wont start at all. it has the green light on but screen still black.. im thinking na bricked ata… any solution to this??? pls pls help =)

I’m thinking it’s bricked as well. Without knowing what really happened and judging from the symptoms it points to your PSP as being bricked.

Dude, may problem me sa psp, may CFEnabler ako tapos CHickehen, bigalng nawala lahat ung downlaodable games pero ang saved games ay okay lang, tapos tinuruan ako ng sales lady na go to photos>Memory>ChickHEN mode tapos croll down, then mag green sya supposed to be, kaso walang nangyayari eh, mag hang lang ung psp ko, PSP ko nga pala ay 2010 or 2000 di ko alam, please help po, wala akong alam sa mga ganito
ulit ulitin mo lng until mag-GREEN screen.. then open mo ung cfw enabler from the games menu..

1.) Check mo muna kung anong mobo ng PSP mo kasi if partially hackable lang sya, ang pinaka mataas na cfw na pede sa kanya is 5.03 GEN-C. You can check the mobo by following the instructions posted here:

So no… hanggang 5.03 GEN-C ka lang.
2.) No. For fully hackable PSPs and 5.00 M33-6. Hanggang 5.03 GEN-C lang talaga.
So… are there any detaailed instructions for installing CFWE3.7? I would like to know them in detail before i go ahead and install it without any kind of support. Can someone help? I have done the chickhenR2 install already.

For example: it says to choose “install”, bu there is no “install” only “Flash and Start”. Not real sure what flash does. Some more info would be helpful

You can install CFWE 3.7 directly. No need to install 3.51

hey i have a LITTLE( or BIG) problem here. i install the cfw enabler and got a 5.03 mhu. after i know theres a new 5.03 GEN-C cfw, i tried to update to GEN-C. after updating the firmware still 5.03 GEN-C! can you help me?
CFWE is 5.03 MHU. If you want to remove it, simply chose the uninstall option on the VSH menu (press select on your XMB), run chickhen again and then run the 5.03 GEN-C installer.
my psp is 3006, and i cannot find uninstall option on the vsh menu. my CFWE version is 3.7, that i forgot to tell you…

I’ve managed to install chickhen R2 on my psp phat, and i know this because it says 5.03 ChickHEN R2 on the system info, but when i try to install CFWEnabler 3.51, it just goes back to the menu. I can’t tell if i installed Chickhen on my psp correctly, because I don’t know if the background is supposed to be altered in any way

Help naman ayaw magrun ung chickhen R2 sa psp ko japan kc un TA-085v1 motherboard niya try ko sana makuha ung CFW or m33 gamit ung HEn + hellcats recover flaher.. d ko alam kung nid ng orig. memorystick para mabilis makuha ung chickhen R2 na un my nabasa ako sa forum mahirap daw mapagana ung hen sa japan na psp reply po sa mga nakakalam jan

Still no way to do that dude. There’s a possible hack in coming but it hasn’t been released yet.

Yep, if I remember correctly, MHU has the option to uninstall the cfw on the VSH menu
sir, there’s no uninstall option in the vsh menu.. it only has cpu clock xmb & game , usb device, umd iso mode, iso video mount, shutdown and reset device and exit options.. what should i do?
oh, I guess that was for the newer versions of MHU. Just proceed with the installation. Don’t worry, it’s safe.

Basta maikabit mo sa PC yung memory stick (either via USB to PSP or a card reader). Anong dati mong firmware?

Yup. Or you can simply use the signed version for 5.03 GEN-C. At this point it maybe, better to install 6.20 TN-D or 6.35 Pro-B3.
