It was inevitable but I’m a bit surprised that it wasn’t Dark Alex to have come out with a solution to the no homebrew on the PSP Brite.
Datel, a known name in the gaming industry (thanks to Action Replay… cheaters) has come up with the Lite Blue Tool, a battery that will enable the service mode on both PSP 2000 and PSP 3000 models thus homebrew-ers to finally develop and install a custom fIrmware (just like the recently release 5.00 M33-3 firmware) hack.
Datel also gave details on how they were able to get service mode working to Max Console:
Although there were early indications that the PSP-3000 had embedded Service Mode capability, it was clear that silicon level investigation would be required to understand the new mechanism.
Once the target IC had been identified, our engineers then de-capsulated the device and prepared it for hi-resolution SEM imaging.
Datel’s Lite Blue Tool is priced at $29.99.
EDIT: Since quite a lot of people were complaining about it, I think some clarifications are in order. Yes, the Datel Lite Blue Tool ONLY puts the PSP-3000 in service mode and but it’s still not possible (for now at least) to install custom firmware on it. Why this is a major breakthrough is because without access to the service mode, even if a custom firmware hack was available, you wouldn’t be able to install it. That said, service mode by itself is only interesting for a hackers who actually work on the custom firmware and not the general public.

I really hope this works. I really want to use the PSX2PSP Converter, so I can play PSone games on my PSP 3000.
$29 bux seems a bit steep to me tho.

yes but currently there’s no other way to put the PSP 3000 in service mode which is required to install a CFW. Just wait a few more weeks.
