Apparently a LOT.

As a Monster Hunter player since it’s first incarnation on the Ps2 and it’s iterations on the PSP, I can say I’m really excited for Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii.  Aside from radically different control scheme, the upcoming (or already release if you’re referring to the Japanese version), Tri offers a whole new different world filled with new maps, new equipments, new moves and of course, new and powerful monsters!  I’ve been looking at several videos of Monster Hunter Tri and I must say, I’m really quite excited about the game’s release.mh3logo » Read more after the jump →

It’s quite a late greeting as the new year has already pass throughout the globe but I’ve got one good reason to post this late. I went out to watch the first sunrise of the year! Too bad I didn’t bring my cam since I was afraid of it getting wet (what cam? we’ll get to that in a bit) but hey, at least we’re still here.

Ake Ome to everyone! (Akemashite Omedetou -> Happy New year in Japanese) :D . Now on with the mandatory, first day of the yer post.

Looks like it’s going to be a good year for anime. After the announcement of a new Geass project, here comes news of K-On!’s second season

Although there’s no “official” announcement as of yet, the confirmation of the second season was announced via Live, a recent K-On! event so there’s doubt that the press release is going to follow soon.

Personally, I can’t wait for the new season if but for the new songs that the anime will release with. At the moment, the first season’s “Don’t say lazy” is still at the top of my to-listen list. Moe, moe, kyun!

Fender really knows how to give otakus a treat as a set of limited edition statocaster and telecaster electric guitars with the enigmatic Rei Ayanami painted over them goes on sale a few days ago via auction. The price tag?
$85,000 for the all to famous telecaster and $100,000 for the stratocaster. I’m pretty sure having seen this, most Evangelion die-hard fans simply stopped and drooled (including me of course).

A bright and happy holiday greetings to everyone from Atma Xplorer. It’s the 25th and yes, and I know I should be resting but I’m still here answering your PSP-related problems! Thanks to everyone who continue to come to the site and help out (you guys know who you are :D )

Now, if you’re scratching your head as to how meri kurisumasu = merry christmas, it’s the japanese pronunciation of the holiday! Forgive my otaku-mannerisms as I’ve just started a week-long anime marathon :D . I need the break from this month’s overbearing workload so I may not be online as much as I did so I hope you can bear with me (this is still a one man show!). If you’ve posted a question and are still waiting for a reply, why not treat yourself to some free psp games and free dsi games? I promise to be back before the new year’s celebration :D

Again, Merry Christmas everyone!

After the success of 5.50 GEN-D2, Then GEN team pushes another update that allows you to play most of the latest PSP games without upgrading to the latest firmware (this means games that require at least 5.55 upto 6.10 official firmware) nor having to to patch the eboot. Instead of a simple patch however, 5.50 GEN-D3 can be installed by using the XGEN Updater (currently at version 5). Wondering how to install 5.50 GEN-D3 on your PSP? Please continue reading below.

If you have a PSP-3000 / PSP-2000 TA088v3 however, you can install 5.03 GEN-C.

Important: DO NOT attempt to install this on PSP-3000 / PSP-2000 TA088v3. YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PSP IF YOU DO.
Important: If you are updating from 5.50 GEN-B, you need to install 5.50 GEN-B2 before proceeding. Otherwise, YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PSP.
Requirements:

  • A PSP with custom firmware installed AT LEAST 5.00 M33-6. Although the installer worlds on 4.01 M33, it’s better if you upgrade to 5.00 M33-6 to lower the risk of the installation failing. If you’re having problems installing 5.50 GEN-D, read the troubleshooting part below.
  • PSP battery that’s at least 78% full
  • Download: XGen Updater
  • Disable ALL plugins.
  • Back up your save files (so that if they get corrupted, you still have backups)

Update: If you’ve already downloaded the file xgen_v5.zip earlier, please redownload the file again. The GEN team has patched a few issues with 5.50 GEN-D3 and the current file is now xgen_v5b.zip.

True to their word, the GEN Team has now released Custom Firmware 5.03 GEN-C. It’s an update to their existing line of 5.03-based firmwares (5.03 GEN-A and 5.03 GEN-B) that will allow you to play games that require upto 6.10 without running the decrypter to patch the game.

Important Notes:

This guide is for non-hackable PSPs. (PSP-3000 / PSP-2000 TA-088v3). If you’re not sure what PSP you have, please read: Is my PSP hackable?

On this guide, we will help install 5.03 GEN-C on your PSP. There is no danger of bricking your PSP unless you deviate from the instructions listed below. Unlike custom firmware for hackable PSPs, the danger of bricking your PSP-3000 / PSP-2000 TA-088v3 is quite real. If you’re not sure about a step, take the time to post a question.

Do note that if you have official firmware 5.50 or higher installed, stop now. You can’t install the chickHen hack which means you can’t install 5.03 GEN-C.

Requirements:

  • A PSP-3000 or PSP-2000 with TA-088v3 motherboard.
  • A PSP with ChickHen R2 up and running
  • Download: 5.03 GEN-C | 5.03 GEN-C
  • Back up your save files (so that if they get corrupted, you still have backups)

With the PSP Go already released to the world, there’s probably folks out there wondering if the flash memory equipped PSP Go would be a better investment rather than the UMD-trotting PSP-3000. This is especially true this Christmas season, when people really put out cash for shopping :D

PSP Go vs PSP-3000

In the last (and this is waaaaaay back) iteration of Atma Xplorer’s head to head, we’ve pitted the DSi against the PSP-3000 and the PSP-2000 vs PSP-3000, generating some of the most interesting yet vitriolic discussions I’ve seen so I decided to continue the trend with a few more Head to Head posts. :D

Now, the question on everyone’s mind: Which of the current PSP models is better? Even with the release of the PSP Go, Sony has admitted that it won’t stop sales (nor production) of the the PSP-3000. As with the earlier Head to Head post, this is meant to help you decide which new model is worth picking up and which one isn’t. Sure, both device has merits but only one deserves your money right?

Alright, let’s get started.

geassLooks like I’ve stuck my head with my work for too long to have passed this info for too long.

A new Geass project is in coming. Is it a new series? A movie? There’s literally no info about this “new birth” except for this image but I’m pretty sure fans are hopeful :D .

Personally though, I’m more interested in a new Gundam Series :D .
