Unlike PSP/PS Vita gamers in Japan, Vita buyers in the US will not get the same treatment when it comes to migrating their current UMD library on to the Vita. You will have to re-buy your PSP games that are on physical media if you want to play them on your new console.

Japanese gamers can use the UMD Passport program to register their UMDs to their respective PlayStation Network (now Sony Entertainment Network) accounts and pay a small fee to be able to download the digital version of the game on their PSP or the Vita. Sony of America (via Kotaku) however, says that it has no plans to bring the program on to the US market.

Bummer :/ I guess it’s another win for PSP Go owners who stuck with digital copies of their games.

The PlayStation Vita will reach the U.S. and other markets on February 22.

For some reason, Sony will now be calling the accounts you use on PSN, AKA your PlayStation Network account will be renamed to a Sony Entertainment Network account or a “SEN account” starting next week when updates for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita rolls out.

The reason behind the change? Sony had no comment on that but assured users that current PSN users will not be affected except for the name change, stressing:

“For general purposes, this account change is a change in name only. Your username or password will not change, nor are we asking you to change them.”

“This transition is based on Sony’s goal to enhance its unique digital entertainment offering. As a series of these activities Sony started last September, PlayStation Network will be aligned with Sony Entertainment Network. This helps us get closer to our goal of establishing a global comprehensive network platform of services across games, movies, music and more, all accessible from one convenient account.

As a current PSN user, I don’t really see the point for the change. Sure, the PlayStation Network is part of Sony’s Computer Entertainment’s portfolio but what gives? :/ At least when using the term PSN user, you know what the hell you are a user of, when using the new term, you’ll probably get O_O stares.

According to the numbers posted by Andriasang from Media Create, Monster Hunter 3G has sold a total of 1,083,853 units as of January 8 making it the very first third party game for the Nintendo 3DS to hit this milestone. The first and second title to reach this was Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land, proving that Mario is still living big inside the hearts and minds of gamers .

Capcom’s success with Monster Hunter on the 3DS is a warm welcome considering the plethora of PSP fans who felt jilted after hearing that the next PSP game after Monster Hunter Portable 3rd won’t be on their system of choice. There is however, the question of an international release. Both Portable 3rd and 3G have not year been confirmed by Capcom to be headed to US shores. No doubt that the system who will get their english version first will likely be dubbed as Capcom’s current favorite and will drive well-earned sales towards that console.

Which game do you think will get it’s english version first? Monster Hunter Portable 3rd for the PlayStation Portable or Monster Hunter 3G for the Nintendo 3DS?

Dale of Destructiod has posted a video of him playing Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker on the Vita. Why bother playing Peace Walker on the new console? The second analog stick for one and a few more features which you can see in the video.

Unlike the PlayStation Portable, the Vita includes a second analog stick (and more importantly, it works and feels like real analog controls instead of the nubs on the PSP) and it makes a world of difference in several games. If you missed it on the video, Sony has given you the ability of mapping the right analog stick to a number of options. Imagine playing Monster Hunter Portable 3rd and using the right analog stick for the camera .

Aside from the additional controls, you also have Bilinear Filtering which cleans up the images making them look better on the Vita’s OLED screen, options for the camera for games that support it as well as the color space options for those who are tacky with what’s displayed on screen.

if you want to see how the second analog works for Monster Hunter Portable 3rd:

According to Andrisang, Hatsune Miku series PR person Nakanohito 1go has announced via twitter than the project’s internal code name is “Project MMT.” I’m hoping it’s a PS Vita title as Sega will surely want to target the new console (and then in all likelyhood release a Dreamy Theater title for it on the PS3 as well).

We’ll keep you posted as more information filters in. In the meantime, you can view some teaser shots embedded below:

An update from the official Hatsune Miku series blog has announced that it’s Hatsune Miku Project Diva rhythm game series has official reached the million shipment mark. Shipped, not sold mind you.

The milestone includes all three current Project Diva games that are available exclusively on the PSP: Project Diva, Project Diva 2nd and Project Diva Extend. No word of this number accounts for the sales of the PS3 DLC, the Dreamy Theater series but it’s likely that they aren’t included.

That number, admittedly small compared to the best sellers of the season (Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare 3, Skyrim), is a boon for Vocaloid fans. The series’ success on the PSP as well as their pricey yet irresistible PS3 counterparts (Dreamy Theater, Dreamy Theater 2) ensures more Project Diva games to come.

In an interview with director Hajima Tabata that was included in Square Enix’s Ultimania guide for Final Fantasy Type-0, Tabata has officially confirmed that the Type-0 team is now working on the international version of their game.

Cue the confetti and celebratory bro-fists.

Tabata’s interview is the first confirmation of the North American, European and Australian release of Type-0. Square-Enix has not yet commented on the issue nor is there a finite timeline for the game’s international release so we’ll just have to look back on the past SE titles that have made it outside Japan:

Dissidia 012[duodecim]: Final Fantasy – both versions released in the same month

Final Fantasy XIII-2 – the international release was one month behind the Japanese release

The 3rd Birthday – the international release was three months behind the Japanese release

For fans waiting on the international release and haven’t jumped on the Japanese copy of the game (no region-lock FTW), here’s a gameplay video of what to expect:

At a recent consumer event, Tabata said that gamers who will purchase Type-0 digitally (or those who’ll get the UMD and use the UMD Passport System to obtain a discounted digital copy) for the Vita will be pleased to know that the game allow for additional camera control with the Vita’s right analogue stick. He also confirmed that the game’s online gameplay would be fully functional on Vita, and that it looks ‘very pretty’ on the new system. The question now I guess is that will the game get a graphically updated version made specifically for the Vita?

When news leaked out that the PS Vita will be tied to just one PSN account, there was a huge uproar amongst gamers as it was effectively a region lock that will prevent you from enjoying content from different PS Store regions.

The PlayStation Portable had this limitation (sort of) but there didn’t seem to be a loud argument against it. While it is possible to use multiple PSN accounts on the PSP, you would have to activate the account that the PS content that you want to access (games usually) is tied to, something you’ll have to do when for each content with a different PSN region origin.

From Sony’s announcement at a press event in Manhattan, Sony associate brand marketing manager Crystal MacKenzie says that the PS Vita will support multiple PSN accounts –just not the same way the PS3 handles it. The caveat is that each account is tied to the Vita’s memory card.

“Your PSN ID is bonded to your memory card and your memory card is bonded to your Vita,” MacKenzie said. “So if you wanted to change different PSN users but use the same memory card, you would need to go factory reset.”

Customers will be able to swap cards to use different PSN IDs on the same system, MacKenzie said. If you have more than one memory card, you can register a different PlayStation Network account on each.

“You can also use them both on the same PSN account as well,” she said.

On the upside, it makes things a whole lot easier for PS Vita owners to manage their content as you basically need one card for each PS Store you want to access.

The downside? It’s a pricey alternative, considering the Sony’s pricing for it’s propriety Vita memory cards.

No new features from the get go, but firmware 4.0 does bring one important change into the PlayStation 3. Support for managing content for the PlayStation Vita. With the new portable console’s Japanese launch just around the corner, Sony’s new firmware update will allow users to copy their digital content such as games, music, photos, and videos between PS Vita and PS3, back up PS Vita game games including save data to your PS3 hard drive, and update the system software for your PS Vita system using the network features of your PS3.

The PS3 will now effectively work as a hub for the PlayStation Portable and the PlayStation Vita. Too bad you can’t share content with all three consoles at the same time as per Sony’s new game sharing policy.

To update, simply go to the System Update menu on your XMB and initiate the process or manually download the update files from Sony’s servers.

One of the most admittedly underrated features of the PlayStation Portable, remote play, is reportedly coming to the PS Vita.

Remote Play allows you to remotely control your PlayStation 3 like access music, videos, photos and even play games (as longs as your connection can keep up). The feature works by uploading actions performed on the PSP to the PlayStation 3 while streaming back a live stream of the output image on the PlayStation 3, downscaled to the PSP’s native resolution.

According to Eurogamer’s report, a future PlayStation 3 firmware update will allow the PS Vita mirror the PSP’s current remote play feature set, upscaled to the Vita’s native resolution of 960 x 544. The downside is that older titles might limited to the PSP’s 480 x 272 resolution as they we’re specifically coded with the older portable console in mind.

If you’re wondering how well remote play works on the Vita, below is a demo of Killzone 3 played on the Vita using remote play:

Remote Play is also available on Sony Vaio computers using a proprietary program that comes preinstalled with your purchase.

With the PlayStation Vita‘s February 22, 2012 launch closing, Sony has finally announced the titles that’ll launch with the new console.

As expected, the line-up leaves a lot to be desired, reminiscent of the lackluster Nintendo 3DS launch line-up. The countries for the EU launch are listed as follows: AE, AU, GB, IE, NZ. Below are the games set to release alongside the PlayStation Vita:

Uncharted: Golden Abyss
WipEout 2048
Reality Fighters
Little Deviants
ModNation Racers: Road Trip
Everybody’s Golf
Escape Plan
Gravity Rush
Hustle Kings
MotorStorm RC
Top Darts
Super StarDust Delta

Personally the only thing I’m interested in for the line up is Uncharted and WipEout, the rest is pretty much meh. No launch Vita for me.

If you’re disappointed, Sony’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Studios Europe Michael Denny gave a laundry list of PlayStation Vita games that are currently in development. These titles will come out a bit later in the console’s lifetime so if you are waiting for one of these titles to make you buy a Vita, I would suggest to be patient and wait it out.

Army Corps of Hell, Square Enix
Asphalt: Injection, Ubisoft
Disgaea 3 Return, NIS America
Dungeon Hunter: Alliance, Ubisoft
Dynasty Warriors Next, Tecmo Koei
EA Sports FIFA Football, EA
F1 2011, Codemasters
Lego Harry Potter: Years 5-7, WB Games
Lumines Electronic Symphony, Ubisoft
Michael Jackson: The Experience HD, Ubisoft
Ninja Gaiden (working title), Tecmo Koei
OddWorld: Strangers Wrath, OddWorld Inhabitants
Puddle, Neko Entertainment
Pure Chess, RebelPlay
Putty Squad Vita, System 3
Rayman Origins, Ubisoft
Ridge Racer, Bandai Namco
Shinobido 2, Bandai Namco
Silent Hill: Book of Memories, Konami
Stardrone Extreme, BeatShapers
Super Monkey Ball Banana Splitz, SEGA
Supremacy MMA, 505 Games
Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack, Drinkbox Studios
The Treasures of Montezuma Blitz, Alawar Entertainment
Touch My Katamari, Bandai Namco
Troopies, Bloober Team
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom, Capcom
Urban Trials, Tate Multimedia
Virtua Tennis 4: World Tour Edition, SEGA
Orc Attack, Casual Brothers
Ben 10 Galactic Racing, Bandai Entertainment
Dragon’s Racing, Ignition Entertainment
Robot Rescue Revolution, Teyon
Mortal Kombat, WB Games
Assassin’s Creed, Ubisoft
Bioshock, Take Two
Street Fighter X Tekken, Capcom
Call of Duty, Activision/Blizzard

IF you’re disappointed at the Vita’s launch line up, remember that the PlayStation Vita is backwards-compatible with existing PlayStation Portable games from the PS Store. All you need to do is buy a Vita memory card and redownload your game for the new console but make sure to take note of Sony’s new PSN activation limit. If you have a collection of UMDs and want to convert them to digital versions via the PS Store, you can register your UMDs and buy the digital copies at discounted prices via the UMD Passport Program.

The Sony PSN’s new game sharing policy is now in effect since November, 18, 2011. As of now, the activation limit of PSN content is as follows:

For Game Content - Two (2) PS3 and/or PSP systems

For Video Content - One (1) PS3 and up to Three (3) PSP systems

Once you exceed this amount, you will have to fully deactivate a system from your PSN account in order to download and use the content on the new one.

There are two steps to deactivate your PlayStation System (PS3 and PSP and likely the PS Vita), either from the console itself or via a PC and your PSN-registered email.

Deactivating your PlayStation via the console itself

Connect your PlayStation (PSP, PS3 or PS Vita) console to the internet and Sign in on your PSN account

Select account management

Select system activation

Select the type of content that you don’t want your PlayStation console to use

Select deactivate system

A message will pop-up indicating that certain PSN content will not be available for use on your console.

Click OK, you will receive confirmation that your PlayStation console is now deactivated

Deactivating your PlayStation via a PC

Head to the PSN Account Management Portal

Login with your PSN credentials

Click on the “Account” tab

Select “Media and Devices”

Four boxes will appear on the right: one for Video, Game, Music and Comics. Click anywhere in the Game box and then choose “Deactivate All”.

Click “Yes” to confirm deactivation, you will receive confirmation that your PlayStation console is now deactivated
