On that note however, one has to wonder if OM’s sister site (1000Manga) will also get hit by this decision.

It pains me to announce that this is the last week of manga reading on One Manga (!!). Manga publishers have recently changed their stance on manga scanlations and made it clear that they no longer approve of it. We have decided to abide by their wishes, and remove all manga content (regardless of licensing status) from the site. The removal of content will happen gradually (so you can at least finish some of the outstanding reading you have), but we expect all content to be gone by early next week (RIP OM July 2010).

So what next? We’re not really sure at this point, but we have some ideas we would like to try out. Until then, the One Manga forums will remain active and we encourage all of you to continue using them. OMF has developed into a great community and it would be a shame to see that disappear.

You can also show us some love in this moment of sadness by ‘liking’ our brand new Facebook page. It would be nice to see just how many of you came to enjoy our ‘better than peanut butter and jelly’ invention.

Regardless of whether you stay with us or not, on behalf of the One Manga team, I would like to thank you all for your unwavering support over the years. Through the ups and downs you have stuck with us, and that is what kept us going.

As a certain Porky was fond of saying… That’s all folks!

Although there’s no “official” announcement as of yet, the confirmation of the second season was announced via Live, a recent K-On! event so there’s doubt that the press release is going to follow soon.

Personally, I can’t wait for the new season if but for the new songs that the anime will release with. At the moment, the first season’s “Don’t say lazy” is still at the top of my to-listen list. Moe, moe, kyun!

The anime of course simply showed the FATE arc, which was only one of three story lines found in the game. Unlimited Blade Works and Heavenly Feel, the arcs which you can access after the original, had a more intriguing focused and storyline. Fans of this Type-Moon mega-hit Fate/Stay Night wanted more. And they’ll get more

Up for release on cinemas on January 23^rd, 2010 is Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works.

The seiyuu cast from previous works are set to reprise their roles.  If you can read kanji (which I lamently can’t ), some details are shown in the scans shown below:

If you’ve played the game, you already know what the movie has in stored. If you haven’t seen the series, see it before watching UBW although we’ll most likely get to see this when the DVD rolls out the market.

2.0 poster

Yes, you read that right, overwrite.  This was confirmed via the short preview at the end of Evangelion 1.0. New characters (you can see her in the poster on the right), new scenes and a whole new storyline is promised for Evangelion 2.0.  Will it remake the fanbase?  I certainly hope so.  One of the qualms about Evangelion is that it’s too complex to get a grasp of everything in more than just one, two or seven sittings. It took me 12. Aside from everything new, one huge reason to look forward to Evangelion 2.0 is the return of Asuka Langley Sohryu.  Digital remaster versions of the TV series for DVD and Blu-ray is now available starting with episodes 1-6.  A remaster version of the remake movie dubbed Evangelion: 1.11 is also available. [via Sankaku] If you’re dying to know what 2.0 has in store, you can watch the sneak peak. Do note that there are massive spoilers (unless you’ve watched the series already )

This nth remastered version of the franchise ups the quality of the visuals up another technological notch.  Looking back at the original series and comparing it with the current release (as shown below), it’s really an impressive update.

The latest remastering techniques are said to have been employed to aid in this impressive increase in visual quality, and  this is not all: there are also said to 99 revised scenes, and 36 additional ones. The soundtrack has also been upgraded to the latest standard, now coming in Dolby TrueHD 6.1.

Here’s a few titles currently on my to-watch list and some notes on why they should be on yours too.

1. K-ON!

Kawaii Girls + Band Instruments = EPIC WIN!!!
I can’t believe how popular this anime is right now, so much that it actually drove sales of instruments shown in the anime (that’s some otaku power for you). K-ON! rotates around Yui, Mio, Ritsu and Mugi, four high-schoolers aiming for a once in a lifetime performanc, Budokan Live.

It’s probably not for anime fans looking for a more “macho” anime since it’s more cutesy rather than umph but rest assured that K-ON’s soundtrack is not just a girly tune. It’s actually pretty good.

2. Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu Season 2

It was still rumor until the supposed re-run of season one turned out to be the first episode of season 2 How’s that for marketing?

As expected, episode one gives us the same mind-bending paradox that made the first season such a hit. If you decide to watch the series, be sure to pick up your brain after the series is over.

So what’s the catch?  Where’s my dance ending


3. Full Metal Alchemist (Full Manga Adaptation)

Ok, the Full Manga Adaptation might be a bit of a doozy to most but it’s pretty self-explanatory. If you managed to watch the first series and compare it to the manga, you’ll note some differences galaxies apart. Like most titles, many consider the manga superior to the anime. Despite this it’s became popular enough to spawn the Full Manga Adaptation.

On a critical note, the first series had more polished artwork although the full manga adaptation is more consistent.


4. Hajime no Ippo – New Challenger

New Challenger is the continuation of the series AFTER both movies (Ippo’s title defense and Kimura vs Mashina). Ippo’s sights are now set to Ricardo Martinez the WBC Featherweight Champion and Takamura on Brian Hawk the WBC Middleweight Champion.

The series is currently on episode 20 and things have definitely heated up. It’s Brian Hawk vs Mamoru Takamura for the championship belt at the moment so if you haven’t caught on the series yet, now is a good time to do so.


5. Valkyria Chronicles

I don’t have a PS3. Why did I just say that? Because Valkyria Chronicles is the anime adaptation of a PS3 game of the same title. My first impression was that only people who had played the game would like it. It was a premature judgement as I ended up liking the series. It’s comic and light at times and has less action than the game but it’s still an interesting watch.

Not on this list is Detective Conan but since it’s been so long and winding (currently at episode 530+). If you have an anime title you want to share that’s worth watching, post a comment. It’s free

Even to a certified Otaku like me, the first time I saw the Caramelldansen, I was really dumbfounded as to how something so weird would be so popular. The image on the right is one of the first few images that started the mania out.

The history of the Caramelldansen meme started with the Japanese PC Game Popotan released in December 12, 2002. Animated GIF files soon floated on the net after the anime started airing where Mii (a Popotan character) is doing the dance solo. While it wasn’t THAT popular, it was the start of the mania.

As the meme started to become popular, creative artists and fans started to copy the animation and create animations with other characters performing the dance. The first ones were based only on the GIF animation. After Caramelldansen was released, most of the later animations were based from it.

• Blizzard Product Roadmap Leaked!

What’s new? Well quite a lot, but for those waiting for Code Geass, the anime that has Gundam 00‘s time slot, we get a short preview (end of episode 18) confirming that the second series is due out for April 5. Can’t wait for that.

Also, last February 6, the full version of the new opening song Ash Like Snow by Brilliant Green hit the stores so a copy is already available at your favorite Jpop or Anime Soundtrack source.

Here’s the video if you’re interested. It’s quite a catchy song IMO.

Episode 17

Celestial Being and the Trinity siblings (yes, they’re blood-related) meet face to face for the first time and in the short exchange, we get to see their characteristics.

• Nena is Obsessive, Compulsive. She’s cutesy but quite heartless (as you’ll find out later). She seems to have a thing for Setsuna to the dismay of Michael.
• Johann is a calm and composed soldier. The perfect example of a cold blooded killer.
• Michael is a manical and hot-headed figure. Sort of like the Extended from Gundam Seed.

As an interesting note, CB’s Haro (orange) is also the younger brother of the Trinity’s Haro (purple) though he isn’t remembered by the purple one.

For now, we know that the Trinity’s operate outside of Veda’s plan yet seem to access to CB’s plans (explains how they were able to save them). it’s still not clear where they get their missions from, it’s quite obvious early on that they’ll be clashing with CB in one way or another. Although they still wave the “to stop war” flag, their methods of interventions are much more brutal (in contrast to Setsuna).

Still interested in the Technology behind the Gundams, Dr. Eifman was killed by the Trinity’s in an attack on the Overflags base. He was able to link the manned project sent to Jupiter as well as the true goal of Aeola Schoenberg but he was killed before he could tell anyone about it.

With regards to the Gundams, I’ve always been wondering why Gundam Drei seems under powered, even when compared to the original CB units. In this episode we see it’s true purpose, an additional power source that docks with other Gundams to increase firepower (from a boost in GN particles). It’s similar to the technology used in Gundam X.

As for Saji and Louise, they’re still taking much of the episode’s time with very little contribution to the plot. Louise heads to Spain for a wedding towards the end of the episode.

I stopped halfway through creating a post for episode 15 due to 2 things.

1. Like any Climatic Gundam Episode, you needed the next episode(/s) to get the full story
2. I wanted to see more of the Thrones

Turns out waiting for Episode 16 was well worth it. Why? It dispelled some of my notions on the existences of the Thrones and what role they’ll be playing with Celestial Being. Here’s the synopsis and some additional info for both episodes.

Episode 15

As I’ve stated earlier episode 15 is Part 1 of one drawn out battle. In preparation for this all 3 powers dot the desert with a communication network (similar to what Sergei did on a much larger scale) and prepared to mobilize 832 mobile suits comprising 52 units to combat the Gundams.

The first 2 Meisters to enter the fight are Kyrios and Dynames to take out the terrorist forces that the HRL served as “bait” and soon began the battle of attrition with the HRL.

In an effort to create an escape path, Virtue fires on Burst mode at the HRL forces creating a trench but before Tiera and Setsuna could proceed to the next step, the Union sets off a missile barrage to hold them down.

The plan worked almost flawlessly for Union, AEU and HRL as they were able to isolate each Gundam unit and focus fire.

Tiera and Virtue was held by Patrick Corlasawar and his Enact forces

Kyrios and Hallelujah was captured by Sergei and Soma

Lockon and Dynames was bogged down by AEU’s Overflags

Setsuna and Exia was downed by Gaily or (Ali Al as animeblogger refers to him) and the Mobile Armor Agrissa.

A cliffhanger if I ever saw one. All units were supposed to have been captured. That is until the Thrones showed up.

What are the Thrones actually?

At first I thought they were another “Celestial Being” per se. My predictions were not far off. The Thrones (technically still Meisters) are another division to CB with a somewhat higher rank of importance and secrecy to the original Meisters. They differ greatly in the sense that they don’t actually follow Vader’s (or was it Veda) predictions and seem as if an independent unit altogether.

Why the heirarchy?

Well some speculate that there’s actually a hierarchy to Celestial Being’s Meisters:

1. First Sphere
   • Seraphim
   • Cherubim
   • Ophanim
2. Second Sphere
   • Thrones – Zwei is here
   • Dominions
   • Principalities
3. Third Sphere
   • Powers – Exia is here
   • Archangels
   • Angels

Got enough of Angels yet? If this is true then we’re all set to see a more advanced Unit in the following episodes. Of course this is besides considering that Gundam protagonists upgrade their Units midway through the series so things are really getting interesting.
