Mac users who have upgraded from previous builds of Leopard to 10.5 experience something similar to Window’s BSOD. The problem didn’t seem to crop up for people who did fresh installations. Here’s 3 ways on how you can avoid that problem:
- On the Select Destination page under More Options, pick the Archive/Install option. Installation will push through but you have to wait it out. My friend’s installation took about 2 hours to complete
- Uninstall Unsanity’s Application Enhancer before upgrading. Application Enhancer seems to be the root of many BSOD during system updates. If you choose update and you’re stuck at BSOD, follow Apple’s instructions for booting into single-user mode to remove the said software.
- Follow Apple’s solution (appears to be similar to 2)
Follow Daring Fireball’s guide to file backup before popping that DVD into your Mac.
Most of the electronics today are facing unique issues of data crashing whether it is cameras we are worried about or our laptop or even plain ol’ desktop computers. New cell phones have this issue too.
